Where to start
A chemical pictogram is one part of hazard communication. Classification and the applicable framework determine the accompanying label information. This guide connects the international GHS model with selected national and regional sources, so you can distinguish a model framework, an implemented rule, explanatory guidance and a separate product-certification scheme.
Start with the jurisdiction
UNECE’s GHS is an international framework. The OSHA Hazard Communication standard and EU CLP regulation are separate implemented systems. Read the exact source for the market and use rather than assuming every GHS detail is adopted identically.
Keep workplace and transport labels separate
The nine GHS pictograms and dangerous-goods transport labels serve different contexts. The companion pictogram guide helps identify the artwork and source; it does not classify a substance or select the complete required label.
Use the complete communication record
Keep the classification basis, source version and approved statements with the artwork. A Safer Choice certification, pesticide resource or mixture identifier has its own scope and should not be treated as a replacement for hazard communication.
