Where to start
A food label combines several decisions: what the product is called, which ingredients and allergens it declares, how nutrition is presented, and which claims or front-of-pack symbols apply. Start with the destination market and the product category. An international standard can help you understand the subject, but national implementation is the next source to check.
Identify the responsible body
A national food authority, a ministry and a standard-setting body do not necessarily have the same role. In the United States, the FDA and USDA FSIS resources below cover different products. Australia and New Zealand share Food Standards Code resources alongside their own enforcement arrangements.
Separate information from artwork
A nutrition rating, allergen declaration, food-business identifier and voluntary certification each answer a different question. Read the resource scope before taking a symbol from the companion logo library.
Keep the version with the brief
Record the document title, jurisdiction, version and official URL alongside the artwork. Check amendments in the publisher’s portal before treating an older compendium or manual as the current text.
